Newcastle Art Gallery relies on the help of a small and dedicated team of volunteers. Our volunteers dedicate their time and energy to the Gallery, and without them we would not be able to present the rich program that we currently do. There are three types of volunteers at Newcastle Art Gallery.

Gallery Guides

The Gallery Guides program recruits every two to three years, and is a long term commitment (3 years+). Guides meet and train weekly, and commit at least 2-3 shifts per month to provide Guided tours and information to audiences of all ages.

Art Cart Volunteers

The Art Cart volunteer program recruits every six months, and is a mid to long term commitment (12 months+). Volunteers meet and train every two months, and commit at least one shift a fortnight to support Gallery staff at special Education events, weekend art activities and school holiday events.

Gallery interns

Internship or placement opportunities are limited to tertiary students undertaking a program of study, please be aware we cannot accept secondary school student placements. Each application is considered on a case by case basis to ensure your specific interests can be matched to meaningful projects and available staff.
