Michael Doolan’s fascination with the world of toys continues in this recent series of hand-built ceramic sculptures. Doolan uses traditional modelling techniques and then coats the fired ceramic forms in a flocked skin, one that suggests the texture and comfort of soft toys. Doolan’s choice of woodland animals and fairytale scenarios however, is not what it initially seems. These cautionary tales reveal the underbelly of childhood narratives.
