Temporary Opening Hours

The Gallery is open for morning and afternoon sessions on Tuesday - Sunday. 

Daily sessions*
Morning: 10am – 1pm
Afternoon: 2pm – 5pm

Bookings

Bookings are essential to reserve one of the two daily sessions.

  2. Select BOOK NOW to begin the process  
  3. Select preferred date and time
  4. Enter contact details
  5. Confirm your booking
  6. Print a copy of your ticket and bring this with you to enter the Gallery

PLEASE NOTE: to ensure we have details to support contact tracing, each visitor will need to provide their name and phone number. There is a maximum 5 tickets per booking.

Dress Code

To ensure the comfort and safety for all visitors, we ask:

  • Footwear must be worn at all times
  • shirts must be worn
  • swimwear is covered up

Management reserves the right to refuse entry to any person at its discretion.
 

Cafes and coffee in the Civic area 

Newcastle Art Gallery does not have a cafĂ© on site, we are right in the heart one of Newcastle's best coffee, dining and boutique shopping districts: Darby St. See the Visit Newcastle website to read more, or go to the Darby St Facebook page.
 

Cloakroom

To ensure the safety of our works of art, large bags and personal items will be required to be stored at Front of House. We also require umbrellas to be left at the front door, which helps us avoid slips and falls. Please note, it is at the Gallery’s discretion to request a bag or item be stored during your visit.

Access and Facilities

Newcastle Art Gallery is a two-storey building. The lift is directly to the left of the front door as you first arrive. All exhibition spaces are completely wheelchair and stroller accessible. The restroom facilities (including access bathroom and baby change table) are on the ground floor on the left hand side as you first arrive. Free wifi is available.
 

Courtesy wheelchair and seating

A courtesy wheelchair is available on request, simply ask at the front desk when you arrive. Chairs are also available on request.
 

Photography in the exhibition spaces

Photography is permitted in the Gallery, so long as it is for personal use. We do not permit the usage of tripods or flash photography, check out our Visitor Tips page as it helps explain why.
